Poll Analysis – PSD Have Absolute Majority

A survey carried out by the Jornal Económico and the Económico of Madeira, by Aximage, shows that the PSD – Social Democrats have recovered their majority.  Miguel Albuquerque’s party is currently 14 points ahead of the PS, recovering many of the votes it has lost since 2015.

The poll also indicates that if the regional elections were held today, the PSD would garner 42.2 percent of the votes, with the PS-Madeira (Socialist Party) only securing 27.5% of the islands votes.  However, this still leaves a huge gap between the top two parties and those lower down the list, as both the CDS-PP (People’s Popular Party) and BE (Bloco de Esquerda) have only attracted only 2.3 percent and the CDU (United Democratic Coalition) 2.1% of voters.

The poll was carried out between the 8th and 11th of June.

Another poll conducted by Aximage for Jornal Económico found that 89 percent of respondents believed that the government has acted pro-actively and positively throughout the pandemic crisis.
