Municipality of Calheta to Deliver Presents to Children

Due to the pandemic, this year there will not be, as usual, the Christmas get-together for children from Pre-School and 1st Cycle of Basic Education in Calheta.  However, Municipality President Carlos Teles, has confirmed that all children in the municipality will receive a Christmas gift. 

New British Resident Portal

The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) and the United Kingdom Embassy in Lisbon today launched the second phase of their joint information campaign, which aims to inform all British nationals living in Portugal on the new exchange procedure for their current residence permit under the Resident Status Withdrawal Agreement.

We Will Not Confine Machico

The President of the Regional Government has confirmed that despite the increasing number of cases of Covid-19 he will not erect a security barrier around Machico, arguing that this measure could only be justified "if there was a lack of control and community transmission." Even so, he said the situation  calls for scrupulous compliance with the rules and reaffirmed that strict inspections will be carried out on all bars and restaurants.

Bacterium Escape from Chinese Laboratory

Officials have confirmed that more than 10,500 people have contracted brucellosis, an animal disease, in northwest China, after the bacteria 'escaped' from a biopharmaceutical laboratory that produces vaccines for animals. Brucellosis is a disease transmitted by cattle or animal products. It is generally not contagious among humans, but it can cause fever, headache and pains in joints.
