Tourism – A Glimmer of Hope

While Presenting the 'Madeira Safe to Discover' certificate to Calheta Travel Agency RMK Tours, the Regional Secretary for Culture and Tourism, Eduardo Jesus, stated that he expects tourism to show signs of recovery in the second half of this year, as there will be a holiday 'demand boom' as more and more people are vaccinated and travel restrictions are lifted.

The outcome of the transition period for the UK's withdrawal from the European Union is not yet certain. There is so much uncertainty at the moment (the 31st of December 2020 is the date scheduled for the end of the transition), that no one can predict what will happen from the 1st of January 2021, especially in  the circulation of goods between the EU and the UK.

Policeman Assaulted While on Duty

A police officer was attacked on Saturday morning at Rua das Fontes, in Funchal, when he and other Rapid Response Brigade officers officially closed a bar that was flouting the new health and safety rules. The bar, which was busy with youngsters was open after midnight and selling alcohol, while its patrons continued to gather in a public space.
