Rainfall Exceeds Red Alert Limits

Today’s rain has exceeded red-level warning limits in three mountainous areas overlooking the city of Funchal, said the Regional Delegate of the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA), Victor Prior.

As reported on Eco.pt, the limit of 60 litres per square meter in six hours (60 mm/6 h) was exceeded in Chão do Areeiro, at 1,500m, where the precipitation reached 117 mm, and in Pico Alto, at 1,100m 110 mm rainfall has been recorded.

Monte has already registered 100 mm, with Funchal recording 34.3 mm.
