CMF Water Reduction Programme

As part of an investment of more than 12 million euros aimed at reducing water losses in the municipality, Funchal already reduced its consumption by approximately 10%.

The latest figures were released today to journalists by the Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, to mark the start of Environment Week, which runs until Monday in Praça do Município.

In his speech, Pedro Calado stated that the savings made in the purchase of water, which equates to roughly three million cubic metres less than this time last year, could fill “a thousand Olympic-sized swimming pools.”

The mayor mentioned other interventions carried out by the CMF in the field of the environment, such as the reforestation action of the Funchal Ecological Park, which represented an investment of more than one million euros. Regarding the Department of Environment and Green Spaces, Pedro Calado stressed that the municipality has already invested more than five million euros in new vehicles, as well as hiring 45 additional staff members.
