Madeiran Catholics Hold Vigil

In light of the recent sexual abuse of minors allegations within the Catholic church, some of which occurred in Madeira, a group of Madeiran Catholics are joining a national initiative, and taking part in a prayer vigil on Wednesday, the 22nd, from 21:00 pm to 22:00 pm, in front of the College Church in Funchal.

Tiago Neto, the promoter of the initiative, says that “we invite Portuguese Catholics, lay people, and communicants to gather in a silent prayer vigil in front of the College Church in Funchal. We want to be part of the national vigil, and would like as many people as possible to join us.

For those interested in attending, please bring a candle which will be lit during the prayers.  There will be no speeches, and the organisers want to use candlelight as a way of shining a light on crimes that have lain undercover for so long as well as fostering a feeling of forgiveness.
