After a difficult night, the fire that broke out in Lugar de Baixo was finally extinguished at 6 am this morning.
The fire started in an uncultivated area on the slope of Santo Amaro. Due to its location, it threatened habitat and nearby homes, especially as the wind was aggravating an already difficult situation.
The Mixed Firefighters of Ponta do Sol and Ribeira Brava were at the site all night with various means, in order to prevent the progression of the flames. According to local media outlet, JM, the fire was finally extinguished before dawn.
The Mayor of Ponta do Sol, Célia Pessegueiro, was also on site to monitor the situation.
