Pulmonary Screening in São Martinho

The Parish Council of São Martinho, together with the Fundação Portuguesa do Pulmão, and the support of Boehringer-Ingelheim, will promote, on the 14th, 15th and 16th of September, a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease screening clinic.

Taking place at the Junta’s headquarters, under the theme “Autumn, this season, test your lungs.”  The screening will be completely free and aims to assess the lung health of all those interested.

The president of the Board also wants São Martinho to assert itself as a “Health Parish.” He went on to say that “we want to assert ourselves as a health parish especially as they are, the parish with the most health equipment, such as hospitals and clinics. Furthermore, this screening is in line with our commitment to the parish, and will become a regular occurrence.”

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a form of respiratory disease that causes narrowing of the airways and destruction of lung tissue. It causes coughing, expectoration and breathing difficulties, and is almost always caused by contact with polluting agents, such as cigarette and cigar smoke.
