AstroSpaceWeek is Back

AstroSpaceWeek is back at Casa do Areeiro, located in the Ecological Park of Funchal, and is organising a series of astronomy events between the 11th and 16th of July.  

11th of July

17:00 – Opening of the event with those responsible for AAM, GAUMa and PECOF ~

17:30/18:30 – Sundial Reading/Sun Disk Observation – spots, bulges and spectrum – prior registration

18:30/19:30 – Hunting for asteroids (group of 10 students) – prior registration

19:30/20:30 – Lecture “Earth – A sustainable planet?” Susana Fontinha

12th of July

20:00/21:00 – The solar system in 3D – pre-registration

21:00 – Astrophotography (1st pixel) – by Duarte Silva (prior registration); A mini-course introductory astrophotography will be given

22:00/24:00 – Monitoring of celestial objects simultaneously on site

13th of July

17:00/18:00 – Reading of the Sundial / Observation of the solar disk – spots, bulges and spectrum – prior registration

18:00/19:00 – Hunting for asteroids (group of 10 students) – prior registration

19:00/20:00 – The solar system in 3D – pre-registration

14th of July

20:00/21:00 – The solar system in 3D – pre-registration

21:00/21:45 – Lecture “Life Cycle of the Stars” – by amateur astronomer Ivo Pereira

21:45/24:00 – Night observation

15th of July

17:00/18:00 – Reading of the Sundial / Observation of the solar disk – spots, bulges and spectrum – prior registration

18:00/19:00 – Hunting for asteroids (group of 10 students) – prior registration

16th of July

10:00 – Mobile Planetarium in sessions every hour at 10, 11, 12, 14:30, 15, 16 and 17:00 (30/35 minutes each session)

10:00/11:00 – Sundial reading; observation of the solar disk (spots, bulges and spectrum) – prior registration

11:00 – Launch of a balloon into the stratosphere

11:00/19:00 – Monitoring the evolution of the balloon by the respective team

13:00/15:00 – Convivial lunch (guests, astronomers and families)

15:00/16:00 – Launch of water/propellant rockets (groups of young people/schools) 16:00/17:00 – Hunting for asteroids (group 10 students) – prior registration

17:00/18:00 – The solar system in 3D – pre-registration

17:00/19:00 – Pause for final monitoring of the balloon’s evolution

19:00/20:00 – Lecture “Astronomy in Madeira” – Laurindo Sobrinho

20:00/21:15 – Light dinner (guests, astronomers and families)

21:30/23:30 – Night observation accompanied by a brief Introduction to Astronomy course on site, by Fernando Góis, Laurindo Sobrinho and the astronomers Sílvio Martins, Ivo Pereira and Arlindo Cruz.

24:00 – Closing of activities
