Free Medicines for the Over 65’s Debated

An interesting initiative by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) was debated at the plenary session this morning.  The proposal asks for free access to medicines for the chronically ill, those trapped within the poverty line, and citizens aged 65 and over.

PCP deputy, Ricardo Lume confirmed that the average pension is 354 euros, and that many pensioners are left with the decision as to whether purchase the medicines they need, or buy food/pay household bills.  As Ricardo Lume said, no one should be denied access to medicinal help simply because they can’t afford it.
