Covid-19: 35 Crew Members Aboard NRP António Enes Test Positive

Thirty-five soldiers aboard the NRP Corvette António Enes, which is currently moored in Porto Santo harbour, have tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a Portuguese Navy spokesperson, the cases were identified yesterday (11.01) during a routine rapid antigen testing session.   They went on to say that,

“Thirty-five tested positive and another thirty-four tested negative. All are vaccinated and had been tested before the start of the trip.” They further added that all those infected have mild symptoms, and are being quarantined on board the Corvette. Furthermore, the whole crew, which are confined to the ship are able to be separated and closely monitored.

Although the Corvette is currently confined to port, all its current duties are being performed by the crew aboard the NRP Mondego.

When asked by reporters if there had been any other outbreaks on navy vessels, the spokesperson said that there had been “occasional cases.”
