Although the sum involved has not yet been disclosed, the proposed aid package cash injection into airline TAP – Portugal will be in the region of one billion euros.
According to sources, the airline’s private shareholders have held meetings over the last couple of weeks and expect the aid package to follow the European model. This is based on a ratio of the number of aircraft and the number of passengers the airline carried in 2019. As an example, Swiss Air, which operates 107 aircraft and carried 21.5 million passengers last year, received 1.4 billion in financial aid.
TAP – Portugal currently has a fleet of 105 aircraft and last year carried 17.1 million passengers, and based on these figures is expected to receive around 1 billion euros.
