There are areas in Madeira whose residents have not yet received their face masks, and to resolve the issue, the Regional Government has purchased 30,000 masks from an outside source to fill the shortfall.
With the masks only arriving today by air, it would appear that the promised delivery deadline of the 20th of May will be missed. This has been subject to change several times by the Regional Secretary for Health, Pedro Ramos.
However, Madeira is probably one of the few countries in the world where residents have been promised and received Personal Protective Equipment from their governments. The delay has led to some very creative and beautiful masks being made by the island’s inhabitants.
