While speaking at a signing ceremony for the declaration of commitment of social partners for the economic recovery and the signing of the cooperation protocol between the Portuguese Hotel, Restaurant and Similar Association (AHRESP) and the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), the Minister for Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho confirmed that Social Security had paid 371 million euros in support to around 1.5 million people.
In the case of simplified lay-off, the minister said that, at this moment, “72 thousand companies employing 623 thousand workers have received financial assistance. Representing an enormous effort by Social Security services who have been able to respond quickly and efficiently when both companies and workers need it most. In just a few weeks, it was possible, with everyone, to create several extraordinary measures to support companies and workers, from supporting maintenance to jobs, family support, reducing the activity of self-employed workers, managing partners and also the recent measure to allow ‘informal workers’ to enter the social protection system.”
She concluded by saying that “this is the time for the sustainable resumption of activities, and supporting companies, employment and people.”
