Four People Rescued

The Captaincy of the Port of Funchal confirmed this morning that four youngsters were rescued from Praia das Areias, in Porto da Cruz yesterday (10th of May).

In their statement, the Captain of the Port of Funchal, in coordination with the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcentre (MRSC Funchal) and the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC IP-RAM), rescued four boys aged between 18 and 19 years-old, trapped on a beach yesterday afternoon. One of which had suffered a fall and needed medical assistance.

MRSC Funchal received the call at 7:39 pm.  The boys who were trapped by the incoming tide were rescued by boat at 21:56, and arrived at  Quinta do Lorde Marina, at 11:26 pm where the injured victim was transported immediately by ambulance to hospital.  His companions were later taken to hospital at 00:10 this morning for observation.
