The Directorate-General for Health (DGS), Graça Freitas explained today (10/05/20) that they are finalising Portugal’s tourism rules at a time when they are not expecting “a substantial flow” which will have to be controlled.
Responding to questions from journalists with regards to the anticipated European Commission Member States Guidelines on tourism recovery, Graça Freitas stressed the need to balance the flow of tourists to new health and safety rules. And how these rules relate to the tourism sector, primarily catering, capacity and behaviour. The key areas are the hotel sector and beaches – how are they going to be used and whether they are subject to limitations such as national or international tourism-.
The new rules will comply with Brussels guidelines, which will be released on Wednesday, Graça Freitas stated that the country will “try to recover normal tourism activities, but that we have to adapt to a new normality with different rules.”
