The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, today received a call from US President Donald Trump praising the Portuguese in their fight against the new coronavirus.
President Donald Trump called President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa early this afternoon, addressing several issues of mutual interest, in particular the economy and the international situation.
According to sources, both Presidents “shared information about the pandemic and how each country was dealing with the situation. In particular the participation of a Portuguese company in scientific tests in the United States of America for the production of a specific medicine.”
During the call, the President of the Republic underlined “the importance of international cooperation and the multilateral framework for international organisations to face common challenges, including the pandemic crisis and the importance sharing lessons learned.”
The American President praised “the Portuguese in their handling of the pandemic and offered any help considered useful or necessary, to which the Portuguese President offered his gratitude.”
Concluding, the two Presidents wished each other the greatest successes in overcoming the present difficulties.
