The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, warned today that “the end of the State of Emergency is not the end of the pandemic and that the new phase will consist of continually evaluated small steps.
At the end of the fifth meeting at Infarmed in Lisbon, to assess the epidemiological situation in Portugal; a government initiative that brings together political powers, social partners and experts, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was asked by journalists about whether he is not afraid of what could happen when he revokes the current State of Emergency.
Responding to journalists he warned:
“No, because the Portuguese are very lucid and have demonstrated this. The end of the State of Emergency is not the end of the outbreak. Even though it ends at midnight on the 2nd of May, control needs to be maintained. The evolution of this outbreak depends on all Portuguese citizens.”
