Bathers in Hot Water

The Public Security Police (PSP) told a group of bathers off today for violating the State of Emergency, for sitting on a beach in Funchal.

Please note, that as soon as the State of Emergency came into force reducing free movement of the island’s citizens, the National Maritime Authority, who look after coastal security and maritime borders banned all sports or leisure activities involving crowds of people, on the beaches of Mainland Portugal, Madeira and the Azores, to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

In the same vein, the Captaincy of Porto do Funchal issued an announcement dated the 16th of March banning all sports and leisure activities on the beaches under the jurisdiction of the Captaincy of Porto do Funchal.

Portugal has been under a State of Emergency since the 19th of March.
