Upsurge in Car Vandalism

Car vandalism is on the increase as ten vehicles were vandalised at dawn yesterday in Romeiras, Santo António, Funchal. The cars were found with broken windows and anything of value missing, which has resulted in losses amounting to hundreds of euros.

An owner of a vandalised Renault Kangoo told reporters that she found her car with a broken rear window while the vehicle had been ‘trashed’ inside.  Although nothing was stolen, she believes its people rebelling against the lockdown.

The Public Security Police has stated that they are collecting fingerprints from all the damaged vehicles in an attempt to catch the perpetrators.

Several vehicles including motorcycles in the Santa Rita, Amparo and Nazaré have also been targeted, even those parked inside a condominium garage.
