The Regional Government, through Regional Legislative Decree, will determine “the fixing of a maximum price for masks, alcohol gel, gloves, personal protective equipment and other essential items.” With the Regional Government decreeing that “the use of masks in public spaces, as a means of personal protection, has become a commodity of necessity.”
In an official statement, the Government of Madeira has said that they will take additional measures to ensure new rules are met, thus ensuring public health, consumer protection and fair competition! And that they are determined to ensure that personal safety is not at the mercy of speculative pricing.
The reaction comes after several published news items have exposed massive price hikes on masks, alcohol gel and other essential products.
