Câmara de Lobos Awaits Covid Test Results

The Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, Pedro Coelho, says that he is concerned, but confident and has asked everyone to “Stay at Home.”

Closely following the crisis, the Mayor says that the Câmara is monitoring the increase in positive cases of coronavirus in conjunction with the President of the Government and the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil protection.

Speaking to local papers, the Mayor acknowledges that there has been an exponential increase in positive cases of Covid-19, which forces the Chamber to redouble its attention and appeals. As the highest authority for municipal civil protection, he has repeatedly asked people to stay in their homes.

During a video conference, he discussed with the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection various possible containment scenarios. As the President of the Government had already anticipated, one of these scenarios involves creating a containment fence around the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, which the Mayor admits is possible. However, he is waiting for the test results. Moreover, if a significant increase in positive cases is confirmed, the isolation of the municipality is almost inevitable. Whatever the scenario, the parish is prepared.

Pedro Coelho reiterates that the case which has caused this exponential increase in Câmara de Lobos refers to a contagion imported from outside Madeira in mid-March.
