All beaches in the parish of Santa Cruz have been officially closed as citizens flout lockdown regulations.
Despite repeated appeals for restraint and notification that access to local beaches is currently forbidden the Santa Cruz City Council will now have to enforce the closure through the use of barriers and a police presence.
In a statement, the local council asked citizens to strictly comply with the rules stating that the quicker we isolate the virus, the faster we can return to normality. But for that to happen, everyone has to abide by the rules.
The main area of ‘civil disobedience’ was centred around Praia dos Reis Magos, in Caniço.
