Aging Population Fear

The resident population in Portugal may fall from the current 10.3 million inhabitants to 8.2 million by 2080, according to projections released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) today. It is estimated that Madeira will suffer the most as statistics show that there could be up to 429 elderly people for every 100 youngsters.

INE notes that these projections have not yet taken into account the impact of the current Covid-19 pandemic.
