Child and Senior Citizen Bus Passes to be Automatically Renewed

In an attempt to reduce the number of people queueing to validate their monthly bus passes the Regional Directorate of Economy and Land Transport (DRETT), has informed all public transport agencies that they must comply with new guidelines with regards to the sale of  Social Bus Passes for senior citizens and children during April.

Children’s bus passes which are valid up to the age of twelve, will automatically be renewed; the only exception is if a child turns thirteen during the month.  With regards to free senior citizen passes, these too will be automatically validated, thus ensuring that the most vulnerable sectors of society are not exposed any more than they need be. DRETT have also stated that this measure might continue into May, but this has yet to be confirmed.

A spokesperson for DRETT said that “As far as possible, companies should help those waiting to comply with social distance rules and wherever possible recommend the use of automatic machines, pay shop stores or post offices (CTT). ”

At the moment, any decisions with regard to school bus passes are on hold, until the schools show signs of reopening again.
