Water Bill Exemption Depends on Municipalities

The Regional Government will assume the water bills of the municipalities that make up ARM (Águas e Residuos da Madeira) and will pay for the water supplied to the municipalities that maintain water control and management, namely Funchal, Calheta, Ponta do Sol and Santa Cruz, but it will be up to these municipalities decide whether or not to exempt the payment of invoices.

The decision by the Government Council to exempt the payment of water consumption between the 16th and 31st of March 2020 is subject to the following terms:

1 – The amount to be invoiced by ARM – Águas e Residuos da Madeira SA, related to the consumption of drinking water, as well as the services associated with it, such as sanitation services and collection and treatment of urban waste, to its direct customers in the adhering municipalities, more specifically in Câmara de Lobos, Machico, Porto Santo, Ribeira Brava and Santana, between the 16th and 31st of March is assumed by the Regional Government of Madeira, which in turn will reimburse ARM, SA.

2 – The amount to be invoiced for the water supplied on the rise, as well as the amount related to the delivery and treatment of solid urban waste to non-adherent municipalities, more specifically Calheta, Funchal, Ponta do Sol and Santa Cruz, between the 16th and 31st of March, is assumed by the Regional Government of Madeira, which in turn will reimburse ARM, SA.

3 – Exempt from payment the delivery and treatment of solid urban waste in the municipalities of Porto Moniz and São Vicente, which will be assumed by the Regional Government and subsequently reimbursed to ARM, SA.
