A State of Emergency, was declared last night by the President of Portugal in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and came into effect at 00:00 this morning and will remain in place until 23:59 on the 2nd of April. The course of action was proposed by the President of the Republic, supported by the mainland Government and approved by parliament.
The decree allows for exceptional measures such as compulsory confinement of citizens at home and driving restrictions on public roads.
According to today’s bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health regarding the effects of the pandemic in the country Portugal has reported two deaths in 642 cases.
Globally, the Covid-19 pandemic has infected more than 210,000 people with 8,750 deaths recorded.
