Regional Government Requests Support From The Armed Forces

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque met at the Quinta Vigia, this afternoon, with representatives from the Armed Forces and the security forces in the Region,  requesting their collaboration in the implementation of the new measures announced this morning.

In response to the pandemic, the regional government announced this morning new coronavirus containment measures.  These include the cessation of all tourist entertainment and recreation activities in Madeira, as well as restricting the number of citizens entering shopping centres, markets, public transport and other public spaces to avoid high concentrations of people in any one place.

The meeting was attended by Rear Admiral João Dores Aresta, Operational Commander of Madeira, Brigadier-General Pedro Manuel Monteiro Sardinha, commander of the Military Zone of Madeira, Superintendent Luís Simões, Commander of PSP Madeira, Colonel António Alexandre Duarte Monteiro , the Commander of GNR, Captain-of-the-Sea-and-War Guerreiro Cardoso, and the regional director of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), Olinda Maria Araújo Chaves.

Governmental representatives included the Vice-President of the Government, Pedro Calado, the Secretary of Economy, Rui Barreto, the Regional Secretary of Health and Civil Protection, Pedro Ramos and the Regional Secretary of Tourism, Eduardo Jesus,  as well as the presidents of IA Saúde, Herberto Jesus and the Regional Civil Protection Service, José Dias.
