The Câmara de Lobos Viva – Community Development Association project ‘Viver de Afetos’ was the only Madeiran winner in the ‘Aging in the Community’ programme.
Among the 140 applications submitted by both national and regional entrants to this initiative promoted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, this was the only one from the Autonomous Region of Madeira to be recognised and awarded.
The ‘Viver de Afetos’ project aims to “combat social isolation of elderly people who live alone or with their spouses in remoter areas of the municipality, who suffer reduced mobility and poor family support and aims to provide a lifeline in terms of company and support. The institution says that it is currently recruiting volunteers for various roles including home visits, telephone contact and shopping trips among other things.
For anyone interested in volunteering for this very worthwhile cause, please contact Câmara de Lobos Viva on either 291943397 or 937669366.
