Musical Show at MUDAS – Museum of Contemporary Art of Madeira

Jukebox – The Sound of Longing’ a blend of music from the 50’s to the ’90s designed to thrill all music lovers is taking place tonight and tomorrow night, the 1st of March at MUDAS – Centro das Artes – Casa das Mudas, Estreito da Calheta.  There will be two performances: one at 6 pm and a second at 9 pm taking everyone on a musical adventure.

According to Juliana Andrade of the Conservatory – Professional School of Arts of Madeira the show is dedicated to the memory of the jukeboxes heyday. The programme which comprises of thirty-four different songs from most genres including rock, pop, twist, disco and grunge underwent an extensive research process ensuring that the musical and dance styles of the different decades are represented as well as providing a unforgettable trip down memory lane.

Furthermore, the students’ reaction to learning the dance styles of the period and the musical repertoire was, for the artistic director, “the most enriching part of this work”.  She went on to say that during its initial phase when presenting the themes, she realised that except for a few exceptions, most of the students did not recognise the songs.

The cast comprises of eighty-five performers from various dance groups and rock combos as well as six Jazz vocalists from the Conservatory’s Professional Jazz Instrumentalist course. Also performing is the very popular and talented Vania Fernandes.

Admission is free; however, places are limited.
