This week the Mayor of Funchal, Miguel Silva Gouveia, inaugurated a new example of urban art in the municipal tunnel of Campo da Barca by the artist Marco Fagundes, located next to next to the Mural da Baleia by Marcos Milewski. This initiative is part of the Wamãe Association which is maintained by the municipality as part of its Support for Associations and Activities of Municipal Interest.
Miguel Silva Gouveia stressed that “this example comes from a sense of continuing to take advantage of public spaces for cultural manifestations, providing both colour and richness to the city. He went on to say that he hopes that this idea and type of art will be replicated and inspire other creators to make the city a gallery of urban art, as he believes that “these aesthetic expressions in public spaces strengthen the dynamism of Funchal and its identity ”.
The president concluded that this is an excellent way to “empower and give a stage to the islands artists and regional talent.”
