Madeira Shopping Centre Hosts Whale Museum Exhibition

From today the 20th of February to the 1st of March MadeiraShopping will host a Madeira Whale Museum exhibition called ‘Knowing the past and seeing the future.’  The exhibition is free and aims to give people a better understanding of Madeira’s whaling history.

Madeira’s whale museum is located in Caniçal and aims to preserve the islands heritage and historical knowledge of whaling, enhance understanding about the marine environment through scientific projects and bring the population closer to cetaceans and marine life.

The museum has a permanent exhibition divided into two thematically organised rooms: the whaling room, documenting Madeira’s whaling history between 1941 and 1981; and a cetacean room, in which life-size models of whales and dolphins are creatively displayed.
