First Images of Lisbon Zoo’s Baby Koala Bear

Lisbon Zoo, which is part of the ‘Koala Conservation Programme in Situ’, announced the birth of a koala bear.

The actual birth took place last year with the ‘joey’ measuring less than 20 mm long and weighing only half a gram.  Newborns are approximately the size of a jellybean, are blind, hairless and have no ears.

Once born the joey crawled into its mothers marsupial pouch, where it has remained for the last seven months.

These are some of the first photographs taken of the new arrival.
