2.3 Million Euros to Fight Poverty

The Mayor of Funchal (CMF), Miguel Silva Gouveia, visited this morning the Homeless Support Centre (CASA), in the parish of Santa Luzia, under their Open Presidencies Programme, an initiative whose motto is’ A United Funchal.’

The Homeless Support Centre is an association that works with homeless people as well as families in need, making every effort to meet some of their needs.

In his speech, the Mayor said that the CMF Open Presidencies Programme aims to “promote proximity policies between the City Council Executive and the whole society of Funchal.  Therefore we will visit the ten parishes of the city, seeking to identify the work that has been developed, either directly or indirectly through the municipalities support.” He went on to say that the objective is to try to keep social investment at the same level as last year, ensuring that this area is prioritised. However, he noted that there will have to be some cuts in other areas.

He conclusion, Miguel Silva Gouveia stated that the municipality of Funchal has about 2.3 million euros invested directly in the Social Investment Fund, which will be used to combat inequalities and promote justice and social equality.  This year the Participatory Budget, he said “would become a reality.”
