An earthquake registering 3.4 on the Richter scale was recorded this morning, twenty-eight kilometres from the island of Faial in the Azores.
According to a report issued by the Azores Seismovulcanic Surveillance and Information Centre (CIVISA), the earthquake was felt with a maximum intensity rating of III (Modified Mercalli Scale), in the parishes of Feteira, Flamengos, Angustias, Matriz and Praia do Almoxarife, Faial Island.
The continuing seismic events continue to occur in an area twenty-five to thirty-five kilometres to the west of Faial island. So far, CIVISA has recorded more than 5,000 tremors and earthquakes, fifty of which have been felt by residents. Seven of which have registered a magnitude of four or more on the Richter scale.
The area’s most intense activity was recorded on the 8th of November 18, at 08:41, when an earthquake reaching a magnitude of 4.7 was logged.
