The Porto Santo Line (PSL) has recently issued a statement to the effect that on the 6th January 2020, their Ferry, Lobo Marinho, will undertake its last sailing to Porto Santo and back prior to departing for its annual service. The ship will sail to the golden island as scheduled at 08:00 and depart for Funchal at 11:30. Once all passengers have disembarked, the ship will then sail to Caniçal.
In their statement, the Porto Santo Line commented that although they are not contractually obliged to do so, they are providing an air link to the island via Binter Airways for up to fifty passengers each way for the duration of the ships service. This service will operate daily, except on Tuesdays. Madeiran residents will be charged €29.16 each way with the PSL subsidising any additional costs charged by the airline. Tickets will be on sale from PSL offices from the 2nd of January 2020.
To ensure goods can be transported between Madeira and Porto Santo, as in previous years the PSL has promised to fulfill its contractual obligations by scheduling a weekly service between the two islands using their container ship the N/M Funchalense 5. This service is scheduled to operate every Tuesday. Again the company has reiterated that although not obliged to do so they will ensure that a second weekly connection is provided between the two islands. This will operate at the end of each week using their new container ship, the Rebecca S.
Their statement also reads that given the large capacity of both container ships combined with both weekly stopovers it will be possible to transport a wide variety of goods including fresh, perishable or dry produce without limitations.
