On the 18th of November the Maritime Authority, in conjunction with the Porto Santo Harbour Captaincy, carried out, their ‘Clean Sea’ Plan in Porto Santo. The initiative also involved staff from the Port Administration of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM), Porto Santo Voluntary Firefighters and the Grusanto (equipment hire company). Observing the exercise was Artur Oliveira (Civil Protection Municipal Coordinator).
The exercise consisted of placing a 200-meter hydrocarbon containment barrier at the port entrance and exit, thus closing off access to the sea. The objectives of the training were to improve the coordination between the various entities, proficiency and increase interdepartmental knowledge with regards to staff and equipment.
