Madeira is part of CTT’s Christmas solidarity campaign, called ‘Santa Claus Solidarity’. It’s objective is to bring a little Christmas magic to some of Portugal’s and Madeira’s disadvantaged children. People are asked to sponsor a letter and provide a gift for the child. Since its inception in 2009, the charity has delivered approximately 11,400 gifts to needy children.
CTT asked 1,500 children up to the age of twelve, from fifty charities across the country including Madeiran charity Abraço Association to write a letter to Santa.
To sponsor a letter, go to www.painatalsolidario.pt, select a letter and enter your name and e-mail address to receive a code corresponding to the chosen card. You then have three business days to go to any CTT Store, including the Zarco branch in Funchal, with the code and the child’s choice of gift. All gifts must be new, but not wrapped as the office will organise the packaging and shipping. Those preferring to choose in person can go to any participating post office outlet and select both a letter and deliver the gift at the same time.
For reasons of child protection, all personal data, both of the sponsors and the children, will only be known by post office staff, thus ensuring the confidentiality of the information and the whole process of gift delivery.
