SESARAM – Report on Caldeirão Verde Incident

Late last night SESARAM issued a progress report on those injured in the landslide at Caldeirão Verde, Santana yesterday afternoon.

‘Following the accident that occurred today, 30th of October in Caldeirão Verde, municipality of Santana, of the 11 victims rescued at the scene, three were sent directly to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. The remaining (eight) were observed initially at the Santana Health Centre and later transferred to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital to receive a more specific treatment.

Of the eleven multi-national victims admitted to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, (French (5), German (2), Portuguese (3) and Brazilian (1)), six are male, and five are female.

– Three victims are in a serious condition. Of these, two are in neurosurgery/intensive care and one has undergone orthopaedic surgery.

– Eight victims have minor injuries, of these three have been discharged, and five are under observation at the Emergency Service.

As well as care, the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, is providing psychological support, help to the victims’ families and translators are on site to give additional support.’
