Prime Minister António Costa Pledges his Commitment to New Madeira Hospital

Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa pledged during a debate on the Government Programme concerning the construction of five new hospitals in Portugal, that Madeira’s new hospital is included in this legislative budget.

Responding to questions from André Ventura, from the CHEGA party (new right-wing party that was founded on the 9th of April 2019), on health commitments, António Costa said that, in terms of hospital units, the objective is ‘to achieve by the end of this legislature the construction of the five major hospitals under discussion. These are the Oriental de Lisbon, Alentejo Central, Sintra Central, Seixal Central and that he hoped that the new Funchal hospital will be part of this plan.’

However, the prime minister did not disclose the terms of the financing, which remains a contentious subject between Lisbon and Funchal.
