‘Thought For the Week’

The responsibility for social justice rests with everyone, irrespective of their beliefs. We know from the media or perhaps from first-hand experience that there are areas of the world and sections of society that have suffered grave injustices for years and years.

We cannot ignore these situations and pretend either that it isn’t our business or perhaps that it isn’t happening. If we are able to do something to help these situations, then I believe we should do so.

I am reminded of the story of the man walking on the beach and in the distance, he noticed a small boy throwing objects into the sea. As the man got closer, he noticed that the boy was throwing starfish, that had been washed up on the shore back into the sea.  The man said there must be tens of thousands on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t be able to make a difference.

The boy bent down picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the sea, then he smiled and said, ‘it made a difference to that one.’
