Sick Passenger Evacuated from Ship

The Navy, in conjunction with SANAS, are currently evacuating a sick passenger from the Crown Princess cruise ship off Porto Moniz.

The operation is being coordinated by the Navy through the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Sub-Centre (MRSC Funchal), in conjunction with the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC), who immediately activated a pre-hospital team, an ambulance from the São Vicente and Porto Moniz firefighters (BVSVPM) and EMIR medical team who are currently waiting to meet the passenger and transport them to hospital.

Due to the severe nature of the illness a warning was issued by INEM, through the Centre for the Orientation of Urgent Patients at Sea (CODU-Mar), who received the distress call from the ship, which is sailing off the coast of Porto Moniz and bound for the United States of America.
