The nature recovery and environmental education 2018/2019 programme, ‘Planting for the Future,’ has had approximately 1,500 school children and 100 teachers planting trees in 31 mountainous locations throughout the island.
Both secondary school students and their teachers climbed the mountains of Madeira or Porto Santo twice a week from November 2018 to April 2019 to plant bare-rooted trees or shrubs, intended to help regenerate the mountains ravaged by natural disasters over the last decade. Areas include Paul da Serra, Chão das Galinhas and Pico Castelo.
This initiative, is part of a cooperation agreement between the Regional Secretariat of Education, together with the Regional Secretariat of the Environment and La Vie Shopping Centre.
