A Jet2 flight from Manchester to Madeira had to make an emergency landing in Porto this morning as the pilot fainted during the trip. Having issued a distress call requesting emergency medical assistance for a crew member, the aircraft was immediately re-routed and landed safely at Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro airport where it was met by paramedics.
Due to the emergency landing, the aircraft remained stationary on the runway, which was closed for 33 minutes while the pilot’s condition was assessed. Later on, a statement was issued saying that the pilot’s malady was not severe and that he had been admitted to Pedro Hispano Hospital, Matosinhos as a precaution.
Luckily, a Jet2 pilot was travelling to Madeira on holiday, offered his assistance and landed the plane in Porto. Both the pilot and the cabin crew were praised for their calm efficiency throughout the ordeal.
