TAP has confirmed that one of its new Airbus A330neo’s, registration number CS-TUF has been named in honour of the explorer ‘Bartolomeu Perestrelo,’ who under the reign and orders of D. João I of Portugal, along with Tristao Vaz Teixeira and João Gonçalves Zarco discovered both Porto Santo and Madeira
Bartolomeu Perestrelo was a knight of the House dos Infantes D. João and D. Henrique and was the first donating captain of Porto Santo, a position he held until his death in 1458. In a statement, the airline said that Perestrelo now joins other historical personalities already honoured by the airline in its long-haul fleet. Also, by naming the aircraft after one of the islands discoverers reinforces TAP’s participation in spreading the history of the Madeira archipelago around the world.
