The seven fishermen aboard the fishing vessel ‘SETEMAR’ who hadn’t been in radio contact with the Funchal Port Authority since the 14th of August have been found safe and sound. During yesterday’s search and rescue mission, the aircrew from a Portuguese air force C-295M located the crew aboard a life raft 124 kilometres southwest of Porto Santo.
Once found, the NRP Hidra and crew, who are currently stationed in Madeira for such missions, were sent out to rescue the stricken fishermen and bring them safely back to port; much to the relief of family and friends, especially as the life raft had no provisions on board to sustain the men.
The two videos below, released by JM Madeira, show the initial spotting of the life raft and the fishermen’s arrival in Funchal harbour.
