Seven Fishermen Missing

Yesterday, the Captain of the Port of Funchal called on the Navy to search for a fishing vessel with seven fishermen on board that has not been in radio contact with land for 72 hours, and whose last known location was in front of Cabo Girão.

Search operations are continuing today with the Tagus patrol ship and the Portuguese Navy speedboat Hidra, as well as a Portuguese Air Force (FAP) C295 aircraft taking part in a 90 mile search and rescue operation.

Although the search so far has been unsuccessful, every effort is being made to find fishermen.
