Madeira Has Enough Fuel and Gas Reserves

In response to the Hazardous Goods Drivers proposed strike starting from 00.00 this Monday, the Vice-President of the Regional Government, Pedro Calado has said that Madeira has reserves, both in terms of fuel and natural gas for three to four months.

During a visit this morning, Pedro Calado spoke to journalists explaining that the national strike will not affect Madeira as fuel to the island and the Sines refinery are both delivered by ship.   He went on to say that given that the union is causing a lot of trouble at a national level, Madeira is on the sidelines of the problem primarily as hazardous goods drivers have had their new pay conditions met, and therefore he envisages few if any issues.
