Animal Shelter in Santa Cruz to be Improved

During his visit to the Santa Cruz Animal Rescue Shelter, the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Filipe Sousa took the opportunity to announce that a licensing process is underway for the expansion and improvement of the shelter and that funds are to be set aside in next years budget. The visit also served to present the new municipal veterinary staff to the centre.

While talking to reporters, the Mayor stressed that his visit was to increase animal awareness and the non-abandonment of animals during the summer months, especially as the centre is at maximum capacity with seventy-nine dogs and nine cats.  So far this year, the centre which is part of a larger municipal project has re-homed seventy-one dogs and twenty-three cats, vaccinated a hundred and fifty-four animals, and sterilised one hundred and ninety-nine animals. Also, the kennel has assisted families in need to feed their pets, to prevent them from being abandoned.
