Pedro Santana Lopes (Alliance Party Leader) was in Madeira on Monday, 22nd of July to observe how the ferry connection between Madeira and the mainland is run, and study the feasibility of maintaining this connection either throughout the whole year or at least for part of it.
In a statement, Lopes believes that the ferry connection is not only crucial for Madeira but also for the continent as well. He also considers it “regrettable” that a sea link which only adds value to economic and tourist activities of the island is plagued by so many problems.
With the September elections looming he swiftly assured those present that maintaining a regular all-year-round ferry service was a significant priority on his party’s political agenda.
